Abu Garcia are another big name fishing reel manufacturer that have been around for a long time. Formed in the 1920's the company only started making fishing reels in the 30's when it changed from making watches to precision reels instead - the first reel was released in the 40's however.

Abu garcia have factories in Sweden and they were awarded the honor of “Purveyor To The Royal Swedish Court,” recently, which is a distinction that is only granted to a select group of manufacturers who consistently exceed in producing items of the highest quality and craftsmanship - not something you can argue with if you have ever used an Abu Garcia reel.
