Baitcasting reels are considered the hardest reel to fish with. Although not set in stone, you can greatly affect your cast with different weights and techniques - some are better while others would see you perform much worse. They are generally not ideal options for anyone new to fishing, however, others have had great success in using baitcasting reels.

Backlash is a common problem (this is also called birdnests, due to the mess of the line looking like one). It is caused by the spool moving faster than the line that is being taken off it. It requires some practive to all but rid backlash from your casting, although some reels have features that also help the caster. Ultimately though, the best thing for it is patience and practice.
